bird, taking flight, default
OK, so I believe the Weather Network. It was a nice walk. Of course, frustrating that they didn't have my favourite bagel, but not a huge surprise that early...

On the way there, as I was crossing the bridge, I looked south, it was pitch black. Looking north, there were a couple of lights whose reflection stretched out in a ray on the water, and you could just see a hint of rosy/blue combination behind the silhouetted trees. On the way back, there was a definite silhouette and dawn was arriving.

So, you might ask, what sort of idiot wakes up that early while he's on vacation. I'd deny idiocy and say the difference is that on vacation, I'm fully enjoying the time. :-)

Sounds great! I wake up early on my own time too, simply because I don't want to waste a single second...

Hi! SO you're a church musician..so am I, but I am not a music director or anything yet, though I play in, arrange, chose the music, am the librarian and sometimes conduct the orchestra, and sing in, help chose the music and play with the choir. Our music director/organist doesn't have much formal music training (straight out of the salvation army) so all he knows about is southern baptist and old-time gospel music, which is fun and keeps the church upbeat, but there should be a little bit of variety IMHO. Yes, the church is on fire partially because of the music (all the minister who just left us:( ) but I think it is burning out of control LOL. We don't do any vocal exercises, warmup or any music that is remotely classical, except hymns. I am going to take organ lessons in sept. so I can hopefully get a job in a church. I have a B.Mus and am private piano, voice, flute and recorder teacher and teach "Music for young children" group lessons out of a music school (guess who my boss is? the forementioned music director LOL)out of the "church house" (a house, not the manse which is attached to the church, so I am at church 5-6 days a week LOL.

I am a member of First United Church in Syndey, NS (beautiful cape breton Island) and have live here for 2 years, but I am originally from the burbs of ottawa (until 2 years ago LOL) which I miss immensely.

Welcome to my friends list!

I think I have the opposite problem from your organist...I grew up Anglican, so I'm not all that familiar with the typical Protestant "everybody knows this one" songs.

I will admit that I don't do anything in terms of exercises and warmups. I don't feel confident because I don't have any formal training around the voice, and I know one singer in our congregation will quite vocally and abruptly let me know if I depart from the Gospel According to Her Voice Teacher. (I happen to respect the man quite a bit, but...)

Quite a lot in common...I didn't manage to get my B.Mus. I ended up so stressed out in university (and didn't recognise it) that I ended up depressed and barely able to get out of bed in the morning.

I teach my piano lessons in the sanctuary. The past couple of years, I only managed to pick up one student at a time, but amazingly since the fall, I've picked up a half-dozen students and three of them are continuing through the summer, and the rest say they'll be back in the fall (and there's only one of them that I wonder about).

I actually just visited NS for the first time last month for "Worship Matters" conference in Halifax. I have an aunt who used to live in Sydney, but she moved back to Ontario about ten years ago, I guess. She's also Presbyterian (but I don't hold that against her. *grin*).

And in terms of Ottawa...I don't know whether I had anything publicly visible that made it clear, I live in Arnprior. And my brother and his wife will be moving to Barrhaven in September.

Anyway, only touching on some of the things I see...the rest should become clearer from my journal. And again, welcome!

I was completely stressed out/depressed during university (and high school, but that's a different story LOL) and somehow made it through with good marks. I have been through (and still am) in therapy (forever lol)and am medicated (when I am compliant LOL) I went to U of O My brother lives in Barrhaven. I am from Kanata. I have been to the 'Prior a few times lol. I have been lucky in the music school I am with now. I have about 25 students, plus my group lessons. I can't wait to take organ lessons! Though, it is from the organist at the competing united church in town and he is quite, well, eccentric LOL Anyways..

oh, cool, we were bron in the same year:)

I've managed to self-teach the transition between piano and organ...which makes it hard for me to be confident sometimes...it's hard to deal with lessons, because I don't have a license, and I think my only options for lessons would be either in the city or in Renfrew.

And as for U of O...I applied there...but ended up choosing Queen's. I love Kingston, not so sure about the school, though.
